When your pet is sick, injured, or simply not acting like themselves, diagnostic testing can help your veterinarian understand what is happening beneath the surface.
Bridge Veterinary Care offers veterinary diagnostics at our Bay Shore, NY animal hospital, including in-house bloodwork, digital radiology, specialist review of X-rays and ECGs, and access to on-site ultrasound services. These tools help our team gather the information needed to make more informed decisions about your pet’s care.
If your pet isn’t acting quite right, diagnostic testing can help uncover the cause. Get in touch to set up an appointment.
What Veterinary Diagnostics Are Available at Bridge?
Diagnostic testing can be used to investigate symptoms, monitor chronic conditions, screen for underlying disease, or clarify findings from a physical exam.
Bridge Veterinary Care offers:
-
In-house bloodwork
-
Cytology evaluation
-
Digital X-rays
-
Radiologist review of X-rays
-
ECG review by a cardiologist
-
On-site ultrasound through a mobile internal medicine specialist
-
Additional laboratory testing sent to an outside lab when needed
What Can In-House Bloodwork Tell Us?
Bloodwork can provide information about your pet’s red and white blood cells, organ function, hydration, and other important health markers.
Because Bridge Veterinary Care can perform blood testing in-house, results for many routine panels may be available without waiting for an outside laboratory. This can be especially helpful when your pet is sick or when your veterinarian needs information quickly before deciding what comes next. In some cases, additional or more specialized testing may still be sent to an outside laboratory.
Why Might My Pet Need X-Rays?
X-rays help veterinarians evaluate structures inside the body that cannot be assessed through a physical exam alone.
They may be recommended for concerns involving the chest, abdomen, bones, joints, or other areas. Bridge Veterinary Care performs digital radiographs in-house and frequently sends X-rays for review by a radiologist, adding another level of interpretation when needed.
Radiologist review can be especially useful when findings are subtle, complex, or require a second set of eyes.
When Is an Ultrasound Recommended?
Ultrasound provides a real-time view of internal organs and soft tissues and can be useful when X-rays or bloodwork do not provide enough information on their own.
Bridge Veterinary Care works with a mobile internal medicine specialist who can perform ultrasound examinations at our Bay Shore animal hospital. Ultrasound may be recommended to investigate concerns involving the abdomen or other internal structures, depending on your pet’s symptoms and exam findings.
When Might My Pet Need Diagnostic Testing?
Your veterinarian may recommend diagnostics if your pet is showing symptoms such as:
-
Vomiting or diarrhea
-
Changes in appetite
-
Unexplained weight loss
-
Increased thirst or urination
-
Coughing or breathing changes
-
Weakness or lethargy
-
Abdominal discomfort
-
Limping or signs of injury
-
Changes in heart rhythm
-
Ongoing or unexplained symptoms
Diagnostics are also used for preventive screening and chronic disease monitoring, even when a pet does not appear acutely ill.
